Inflow and Infiltration Trenchless Repair

By Robert Armstead

This new video highlights three projects where the URETEK polymer injection process is used to trenchlessly seal and repair lateral lines and manholes from inflow and infiltration (I/I). The application is quick and cost-effective and provides effective I/I mitigation.

Manhole Degradation Repair

By Robert Armstead

The City of Florence, in Kentucky, recently called upon Ground Works Solutions to repair five, failing sanitary manholes in their system, mainly due to a high concentration of hydrogen sulfide, which was degrading the precast walls of the manholes. Since the City of Florence had never used this application before, they were interested in this test to see if the quality was acceptable for additional future repairs.

Ground Works Solutions sealed all leaks and installed a one-inch thick, structural, centrifugally cast, cement liner for the full depth of the five manholes. The liner also included ConShield, a concrete additive to resist hydrogen sulfide corrosion. Thiobacyllus bacteria forms on the walls of sanitary structures due to the presence of hydrogen sulfide. This bacteria produces sulfuric acid that…

Inflow and Infiltration Restoration Using URETEK’s Deep Injection® Process

By Robert Armstead

One emergency repair that URETEK Holdings is asked to complete on a consistent basis, is inflow and infiltration restoration for storm drain systems. When the pavement and two manhole structures on Creighton Road in Pensacola, Florida, began to fail due to voids under the right-of-way, the Florida Department of Transportation made an emergency call to URETEK Holdings.

The Solution

After a site visit and pre-estimate meeting with the Florida Department of Transportation, the contractor, Roads, Inc., and URETEK’s project manager, Tommy Russum, a design was approved for injection locations, and quantities and depths for injecting URETEK’s Star 486 polymer to encapsulate and seal the faulted joints from inflow and infiltration.

The Installation

After an onsite pre-construction and safety meeting, URETEK’s crew entered the 48” storm drain system to inject the polymer at two different locations in order to encapsulate and seal the…
