Poor base and subgrade soils can wreak havoc on a roadway, causing a variety of issues such as cracking, rutting and severe pavement settlement. The root of the soil degradation could be caused by:
- Improperly compacted soils under the roadway
- Water infiltration through pavement cracks causing soil washout
- Roadway widening that did not address soil conditions for new design
- Heavier loads than originally design allowed for
- Failing sewer systems underneath the pavement causing soil loss
In Florida, Ground Works Solutions offers roadway leveling and stabilization services. Utilizing our URETEK Deep Injection® Process, we can level, lift and stabilize roadways quickly and cost-effectively, oftentimes saving a great deal of money by eliminating the need to demo the existing roadway and its support soils.
The URETEK Deep Injection® Process levels roadways by injecting a high density structural polymer underneath the roadway through 3/4” holes in the pavement and ½” metal rods that are inserted into the base soils where voids, or loosely compacted soils, are located. The polymers expand throughout the soils and voids, densifying and compacting the areas to adequately support the roadway. This process can be used for:
- Stabilizing pavement against rutting, cracking and severe settlement
- Bridge abutment and approach slab lifting and stabilization
- Mitigating soil loss from inflow and infiltration (I/I) into sewers, manholes and culverts
- Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall stabilization
- Groundwater control and contamination migration
Customer Satisfaction: stabilized and filled voids under budget to standards that helped exceed customer expectations.
Close laser monitoring resulted the positive completion of the desired void fill and floor stabilization.
Bearing capacities in some locations were increased to well over 8,000psf, greatly exceeding specifications.
Depth injections were placed in specific areas determined by client to allow for heavier equipment loads
GWS rehabilitated the Rail Bed soils while rail cars were actively being loaded!
Stabilization of the perimeter footing and grouting of the existing storm line provided a permanent solution in combination with slab lifting
Some building foundations were also stabilized during the mobilization.
Mitigated Expense: prevented COSTCO from shutting down store operation, and saved them approximately $1.5M in lost revenue.
The operation was successful, stabilizing and lifting about 900 square feet.
Customer Satisfaction: achieved up to 7” of lift and leveled the slabs to customer’s satisfaction
Non-invasive: injected in 5 locations with 5/8” holes per location. No excavation and patched holes.
All voids were filled using an aggregate of pea gravel and URETEK 486 STAR to create a low density grout mix.
Close laser monitoring resulted in exact finish elevation of the floor slab
Non-invasive: injected polymer through ½” tubes with 5/8” holes per location. No excavation and patched holes.
Customer Satisfaction: achieved up to 8” of lift and leveled the foundation to standards that helped exceed customer expectations
Slab settlement at 30 year-old office building.
The operation was successful, stabilizing and lifting about 2,300 square feet of 5” slab.
Contractor was able to complete excavation with only minimal slab demolition, and without undermining or destabilizing the slabs that were left.
Project was estimated to be ~10% of the remove and replace cost
All structures were stabilized without damaging the 165 year old brick chimneys.
Stabilized and underpinned vault so that construction could continue without additional underpinning measures
Columns were stabilized, with DCP analysis to demonstrate the increased bearing capacity.
Soil bearing capacity was increased under support columns to handle the increased loads.
Project completed under budget despite extra areas being added on to scope during the project
The operation was successful, stabilizing and lifting about 1,150 square feet of 5” slab.

Slabs were returned to original elevation. Additionally, door frames were realigned, and cracks in demising and partition walls were closed.
The operation was successful, stabilizing all slabs and lifting up to 1.5” in some areas.
WaWa engineer satisfied with stabilizing footer so canopy construction can continue.
Stabilized and filled voids to standards that helped exceed customer expectations.
Soil is stabilized and slab is able to continue to handle the warehouse loads without failure.
Project completed within budget and has prevented further damage to the concrete.
